Where is a good site to find public elk hunting in Colorado? I would like to do some elk hunting in Colorado but I don't know anyone from the state. I have failed to find any good sites on the internet that has public places to hunt, also information about camp sites in the area. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks
Best bet is to get on the phone and talk to the dept. of wildlife there. There is a ton of public land there and some serious bulls can be taken on public land. Talk to a game warden or a wildlife officer and ask them anything and everything you want or need to know. They are a wealth of info and are more than willing to help if you only ask. Field and Stream just did a major article on public do it your self hunts for elk in the best states for elk hunting. Here is what they said for Colorado:
"Any over the counter unit in the White River Nat. Forest between Glenwood Springs and Meeker lies in an area biologists call the 'crown jewel' of elk hunting. Shifting south, o.t.c. units are always solid in the Gunnison Nat. Forest between Gunnison and Crested Butte, and in the San Juan Nat. Forest between Pagosa Springs and South fork."
Check out the website for Colorado's Division of Wildlife. They have all hunting info there and they also have a great set of tips and resources. Comb over the site and see what they have to offer. But the best way to find info is by mouth over the phone. Check out the Division of Forestry website for info on camping and road restrictions. Good luck!!

I used the minipack mvs 31to package some elk that my father brought back from his 2008 Montana hunting trip. I thought I would show the settings I used on the chamber sealer for different packaging needs.

For all the people who use cowboy lever action Rifles like the Model 1895 Cowboy by Marlin. I'd prefer to here from people who shoot 45/70 Gov't. rounds but if you shoot a large heavy old bullet its ok as well like the 30-30 and things like that. I want only people who shoot or know someone who shots lever action rifles.
i have a marlin 1895 guide gun in 45-70 and a marlin 336C in 30-30… i have made shots to 200yds on deer and black bear with them, though i don't always recommend such distances
