Is there any public hunting land near Des Plaines, IL?

I just moved to IL from MI and I am a huge bow hunter. I haven’t been able to find anything about public land. Is there anything close to Cook County. If not how far would I have to go to bowhunt on public land.

Most of the state parks offer bow hunting for deer. There is a public hunting place in Jo Daviess county (which has decent deer hunting). If you are really serious, I suggest you travel south to the Shawnee National Forest which has thousands of public hunting acres. It’s about a 6 hour ride. Keep in mind that you cannot bow hunt during the shotgun deer season – which is the Fri-Sunday before Thanksgiving and Thursday – Sunday the week after Thanksgiving.
