What are some good breeds of hunting dogs?
Posted in Hunting Dogs by admin
Thank you in advance.
It depends on what you want them for.
Terriers hunt prey that are restricted to the ground, then kill them.
Hounds chase prey and kill it. They bay loudly to indicate their location and sometimes are used in packs.
Setters and pointers find prey and indicate its location.
Retrievers and spaniels bring back fowl who have been shot.

The best type of hunting dogs are probably bloodhounds, or Fox terriers. That's all I can think of right now.

Springer and Brittney Spaniels, Chesapeake Bay retrievers, Blue tic hound dogs, American Fox Hounds…..All run different patterns, some have different styles, but all are excellent.

Surprised no one has said beagles yet. About the only thing I have not seen them used to hunt has been waterfowl. All around best hunting dog in the US.

It depends on what you are hunting. Some dogs are better suited for upland game. Other breeds are better suited for waterfowl. I am personally fond of both Labs and Golden Retrievers having hunted behind both breeds.

It depends on what you are hunting. If you are hunting ducks, labs are good dogs. If you are hunting coyotes, greyhounds are good dogs. If you are hunting coons, any of the various breeds of coon hounds are good. If you are hunting birds, I prefer German Shorthairs. They will go all day, and still have energy to keep on going.

English pointer, German short-hair, English setter are all good for upland game. Labs, springer spaniels, Brittanies are good waterfowl dogs. however any of these can be trained for both types of birds.
